Some family holidays simply do not feel complete without the grandparents.
They are the ones sitting in the morning sun before everyone else is awake. The ones the children wander over to between games. The ones who insist they do not need anything, while quietly becoming the centre of the holiday.
And yet, when three generations travel together, they are often the people we want to make the most comfortable first.
Will there be too many stairs? Will the journey be tiring? Will the food suit them? Will they be comfortable?
At V are Family, our team will understand what your family needs and suggest the homes that suit. Across our collection, accessibility varies from home to home. Our team knows the properties closely and can guide you towards homes with fewer stairs, easier access, and layouts that work better for elderly guests.
Because when the eldest members of the family are comfortable, something wonderful happens. Everyone else relaxes too.
The journey matters as much as the destination
A drive that a group of friends would think nothing of can undo an older traveller entirely, and then the first two days are spent recovering rather than enjoying.
It is why our homes sit within a comfortable drive of Delhi and Chandigarh. Tarudhan Valley is just forty-five minutes from Delhi and Gurgaon, which makes it the gentlest option of all. Kasauli is around five hours along an easy road, with colonial lanes and level walks that suit an unhurried pace. Mussoorie and the Nainital and Kumaon hills are about six hours out, and well worth it when you have a few days in hand.
Do start early and travel in daylight, with proper stops along the way. It makes a great deal of difference.
The food, which is very often the real worry
This is where the anxiety usually lies. Restaurant food is heavy and unpredictable. Timings rarely suit someone accustomed to eating at seven. Dietary needs are explained at every meal to someone new.
In our homes, none of this arises. Our in-home cooks prepare fresh, home-style meals throughout your stay, planned around your family. You settle the menu and the timings with the cook on your first day, and after that everything simply follows your family's routine.
Which means khichdi when it is wanted, and rotis fresh off the tava rather than sitting under a lamp. Light, familiar food for those who need it, alongside the pakoras and chai the rest of the family will be asking for by four in the afternoon. And nobody has to lift a finger, least of all the grandmother who will otherwise find her way into the kitchen out of sheer habit.

Staff who understand how to be around elders
We hire largely from the home segment rather than from hotels and restaurants, because the skills that matter most in a family home are not technical ones.
They are learnt only by working within Indian households. An understanding of how to be around children, senior citizens and ladies. Soft, respectful communication. Empathy, particularly with older guests. In practice, it shows up in small ways nobody thinks to ask for. A hand offered on an uneven step before it is needed. Tea remembered exactly as it was taken yesterday. No fuss made of any of it.
"The privacy of a villa gives families something a hotel often cannot — the freedom to spend the day together without everyone having to follow the same routine."
Together, but at your own pace
An older guest in a hotel is usually in one of two places, the room or the lobby, and neither feels like home.
A private villa works differently. There is a living room where everybody gathers, a garden or veranda for the morning sun, and a quiet corner to withdraw to when an afternoon rest is needed. Grandparents can be at the heart of lunch and asleep by three, without missing anything or having to keep up with anyone.

When the occasion belongs to them
Some of the loveliest evenings we host are held for the elders themselves. A seventieth birthday. A fiftieth anniversary. A family gathering simply because everyone has finally managed to be free at the same time.
Do tell us if you are celebrating something when you book. Wherever possible, our team can help with the little details that make the occasion feel personal — a cake, a table dressed for the evening, a bonfire as the light goes. No banquet hall, no closing time, and nobody driving home late at night.
A few things families often ask
- Are your villas suitable for elderly guests?
Accessibility varies from home to home. Do tell us who is travelling with you, and our team will suggest the homes with fewer stairs and easier access that would suit your family best.
- Which destination is easiest for grandparents travelling from Delhi NCR?
Tarudhan Valley, at forty-five minutes, is the gentlest. Kasauli, at about five hours, is our most popular choice for a proper hill holiday with elders.
- Can the cook prepare light or restricted diets?
Certainly. Meals are planned with you in advance, and our cooks are comfortable with light, home-style food and specific dietary requirements.
- Can meals be served at particular times?
They can. You set the timings with the cook on your first day, and the meals follow your family's routine.
We have always believed that family holidays should include the whole family. From the youngest child racing through the garden to the grandparent enjoying their morning tea in the sun, everyone should be able to holiday at their own pace, together.
Because years later, it is often having everyone there that you remember most.
Plan a holiday the whole family can enjoy with V are Family.
